Nina Magazine is delighted to be playing a pivotal role in Iraq’s International Women’s Day Celebrations as media partner. Hosted in the Grand Millennium Hotel in Suleimania on 7-8th March, over 300 delegates from across Iraq and internationally are expected to enjoy two days of knowledge-share and Kurdish hospitality.
Each year International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. The first International Women’s Day was held in 1911. Across the world, thousands of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. Organisations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women’s groups, corporations and the media celebrate the day. International Women’s Day represents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality on a global scale.
The Iraqi event is taking place in Kurdistan. Starting on 7th March, this two day celebration is hosted by the Municipality of Suleimania in co-operation with Chamber Trade Sweden. The importance of IWD in Iraq is underpinned by the prestigious sponsors, including Faruk Holdings, Nokan, University of Suleimania and the Chambers of Trade.
Under the banner of ‘A Day of Solidarity with Iraqi women and the Kurdish people in the face of terrorism’ this forum is designed to encourage effective action for advancing and recognising women. It is therefore closely linked to the 2015 IWD theme Make It Happen.
On Day 1 issues around women’s health will be explored. The morning’s prestigious speakers will be joined by other experts in the afternoon, looking at how to prevent trafficking and exploitation of women.
Day 2 will be celebrated by speakers such as Ms Bayan Noori (Iraqi Minister of Women’s Affairs). Other key note addresses will include those of Suleimania Governor, Dr. Aso Faraidun and Chamber Trade Sweden CEO Ms Charlotte Kalin. The event will be interactive with audience participation expected and encouraged.
Team Nina will be represented by co-founder Madeleine White and many volunteers who work towards making Nina the magazine for Iraqi women everywhere.
